[Wood Pumpkin Candle Holder] with Free Pattern

Back when I was doing craft shows -- the Fall/Christmas shows were definitely my favorite ones that I would attend.  For my Fall show I would almost always make painted wooden pumpkins (just like these) and would most always sell out quickly.  Shoppers love the 3D effect of adding realistic items to my wood crafts like the excelsior, homespun fabric and ivy for leaves.  As with this {free} pattern -- this home decor item is very useful as it serves as a candle holder for jar or votive cup, electric melter [like you see in the pic], or use if for a multitude of other items.
I know it may be a little late in the season this year but you can always bookmark or pin for next year.
The key for me with these wooden pumpkins is to use 1" pine boards.  Pine wood is very user friendly and has a very smooth finish.

Fall Wood Pumpkins

Here is some wood pumpkins I created several years ago and thought it would be fun to share with you.  Pumpkins are not very hard to draw out -- they are basically an oval, round, or oblong shape.  I love to use 1" pine boards for my wood crafts with accents of 1/4" thin ply board.  I'm so lucky to have a handy hubby to cut all of my wood for me.  :)

Lots of shading, doodling, accents and more make the pumpkins look very realistic.  On this set I used ivy garland, wrapped it around various areas and secured with my staple gun.  Spanish moss adds the extra touches at the bases of the pumpkins as well as covers up some of base for a decorative effect.

As a wood crafter there are always scraps, left overs and odds n ends that don't get used in the project -- so my hubby will cut them into blocks for me to paint on.  I used a checkerboard stencil on the ends.  "Pumpkin Patch" was handwritten with my paintbrush.  It took many years of practice to learn to write with my brushes and as you can see I was a little off center -- no problem, I added a little rusty heart to the end and waaa laaaa…..you have a cute and adorable little board/block.
