Non-Traditional Graduation Card

Hi everyone!  I bet you thought I'd fallen off of the face of the earth…..huh? :)  Sorry for the hiatus but I have to be honest with you and say something I never thought I'd say.

I.lost.my.crafting.mojo. thus my blogging mojo

GASP….

(insert sad face here)

I haven't been crafting much so I haven't had much craftiness to share here on the blog.  If I start a project I just can't seem to get into the "groove" of finishing it and my creative flow has run away.  :(  :(  Hoping one day I'll get it back.

………..

With graduation season upon us -- I did want to share a card I created for a friend.

Details:
Card is 5.50 x 4.25

I'm Back, Reflection & {Holly Jolly Cupcake Toppers}

Hello my sweet friends!  I've missed you all so much.  Things at the Wellmann household have been quite busy …..hmmm...some good and some not so good.  I took a little blogging break the week I was hosting my annual Christmas Craft Show and I guess my body was so worn down I got sick…then my oldest son got it…then last week it was passed onto my husband -- so needless to say our home has been full of snotty noses, doctor visits, antibiotics, allergy meds and lots of coughing.  I had very little energy to do anything but go to work and take care of us.   Spencer is the only one who has stayed well through this bug -- so far (crossing fingers and toes).

….now onto the Connecticut School shootings …. my heart aches for all those involved.  Being the mother of a kindergarten student I feel especially close to this horrible event.  Being a christian I know that the "free will" God gives us is sometimes used for evil doings.  It simply breaks my heart.  We are all given the free will to make choices that can help, serve and care for others or we can be selfish and think the world "owes" them for something or another.  I do believe that mental illness/disorders is a real disease and have to rely on my faith that this person had to not be of sound mind and body to even dream up this horrific plan.  Prayer changes things and I will continue to pray for peace, grace and comfort in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ during short days ahead and the long days that will surely never be the same for us.  I've seen so many life changing events during my lifetime, 1986 with the Challenger explosion, the bombing of the Oklahoma building, Columbine, Virginia Tech, 9-11 Twin Towers, Hurricane Katrina, Rita, Ike that forever changed Texas, Arizonia Representative Gabby Giffords shooting, Movie Theatre Massacre, Mall Shooting, now this…. do I think gun control will solve the issue?  Heck no.  I believe that we need to put God back into our schools and allow prayer to be a daily part of lives…..stepping down off my soap box now.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now….on a brighter note…. I wanted to share some cupcake toppers I created for holiday cupcakes I took to work for our annual Christmas party.
I will share the actual cupcakes in another post as our party is later on today.  :)
Packaging Idea for Halloween Treats
{Mini Halloween Goodie Bags} ~ Pockets Made from Envelopes
We are only days away from Halloween 2012 and that means if you need a quick and simple way to package up little treats here is a crafty idea for you.
I started with plain letter envelopes, sealed them and them cut in half with decorative scissors to make 2 pockets.  For the handle I stapled ribbon or rick rack to the pocket before covering it with scrapbook paper.  For the "pumpkin" pocket I tied brown ribbon for the handle. The halloween face stamps are from Michaels Craft Store and sentiments are from My Pink Stamper.
Tootsie Pop Broom Stick {Halloween Treats}
I love treat holders and especially when I can make them look extra cute.
These little witch's brooms have a hidden treat under the bristles -- a tootsie pop. So fun!
I first saw this idea on a YouTube video of one of my favorite crafters and was inspired to create these for myself.   She used a brown coffee filter to create a "broom" but I only had white coffee filters -- I used brown glimmer mist to change my white filters into brown ones.  This color is a little darker than what I like -- but I used what I had.
{Still Rocking at... 70} Man Card
We were recently invited to my sister-in-law's dad's 70th birthday celebration and when planning my card I immediately knew I wanted to have a guitar on it.  He's played in a band with friends his whole life traveling to little local communities entertaining folks from all around.  He plays guitar in the band so this is the focus of my card.  When creating a card for a specific person I really like to personalize it to suit their likes, taste, or what they are in to.  I'm so happy how this card turned out.
Collin's Fight and Cancer Sucks Card
~ Hi everyone ~
Today, I share a heartbreaking story of Collin who is 13 years old and recently diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkins Lymphoma.  This special guy is very near and dear to me because we've known his family his whole life, my son is friends with his twin sisters and we belong to the same church.  Instead of shopping for school supplies, school clothes and a backpack Collin is taking chemo-therapy and cooped up in a hospital where he will most likely be when the school bells ring for his 8th grade year.  I wanted to share a card I made for Collin to send to him along with a care package.   I thought he would get a kick out of the card with lollipops.
My Pink Stamper's HOPE AND COURAGE stamp collection has the PERFECT sentiment on it….because Cancer Sucks big time!
I created this card for my cousin's birthday and wanted to share it with you.  I {love} how it turned out……and I hope you do too.  I used the Cricut Essentials cartridge that is pre-loaded on my Cricut Expression 2.
- Card measures 6" x 6" -
Supplies:
  • brown cardstock
  • ivory cardstock
  • olive green cardstock
  • pattern paper - The Paper Studio
  • Cricut Essentials cartridge & E2
  • brown ink
  • yellow flower primas
  • off-white tulle
  • brown flower brad
  • "Have a Happy Birthday" - "Everyday Life" by My Pink Stamper
  • Inside sentiment - "Everyday Sentiments" by My Pink Stamper
  • "Texas Chocolate "Hybrid Brown Ink by My Pink Stamper
  • fine tip brown marker for doodling
Directions:
  • Cut 6" x 12" in brown cardstock and fold in half to make a folded card.  Cut pattern paper at 5.75 x 5.75 and attach to front of card.
  • <Doily l> page 24 Cricut Essentials - cut on brown cardstock at 5 inches.
  • <Doily l-s> page 24 (shift) Cricut Essentials - cut on olive green cardstock at 5 inches.
  • Attach top olive green doily cut to brown cut; tie tulle around doily cuts and make a knot trimming ends to desired length.  Attach flowers with flower brad and attach to doily cuts.  Attach entire doily/flower combo to front of card.
  • Stamp "Have a Happy Birthday" sentiment onto ivory cardstock. Cut with scissors into shape (refer to photo). Ink edges with brown ink and doodle with brown marker.  Affix under flowers bending to create a flag/banner affect.
  • For inside of card, trim pattern paper to desired shape and adhere to inside of card.
  • Stamp "May your day be filled with love and laughter." using Texas Chocolate Hybrid ink pad onto ivory cardstock.  Sentiment is from Everyday Sentiments by My Pink Stamper.
  • Trim sentiment, ink edges and layer onto brown cardstock.  The green olive green circle is left over from the inside of the doily cut.  I thought is added a great color combo inside.
  • Doodle outside and inside of card with brown fine tip marker.
…………………..
Wishing you all a terrific day!
July Pink-alicious Blog Hop featuring Moo-ey Doodles by My Pink Stamper
Click here for the T.G.I.F. Linky Party!
Welcome to the July 2012 Pink-alicious Blog Hop hosted by My Pink Stamper.  This month we are super excited to show you the brand new kit including the Moo-ey Doodles image stamps.  So cute and fun.
For my project I created a 2-page scrapbook layout highlighting the cow with mexican hat.  I was going for a "birthday" theme and used the cow w/hat as a pinata image. I designed a bright colored banner using triangles for the pennants and glued jute rope to give it the hanging effect.  I attached the cow to the banner to appear as if it's hanging just ready to be busted open.
Okay -- next on the blog hop trail is my super talented friend Ms. Shelley so let's see what's she's created using this new kit….
Here is what you get in the Moo-ey Doodles Kit this month….
{Good Luck} Card using Cricut's New Testament Cartridge
This card is 5.50 x 4.25
Hi everyone -- today I'm sharing a card I created for a very special person in our church that is leaving our parish to go to China :(  His time with us is up and he's been assigned a new mission. This card is just a way to say Good Luck and Thank you for your Service.  I wanted a design that was simple yet elegant and I'm so happy with the results.  I'd love to hear your feedback too.
In case you'd like to know how I created it…read on.
If you are a Cricut owner and like crosses -- the New Testament cartridge is a.w.e.s.o.m.e!!  This cart has a whole button dedicated to crosses of all kinds of design - simple and intracite. I totally fell in love with this whole cartridge the moment I laid eyes on it sometime ago and as soon as I could I added it to my cartridge library.  I'm pretty selective about the cartridges I purchase now and only buy the ones that I really like instead of being a cartridge "collector" I'm a cartridge "user".  I hope that makes sense.  I only buy the ones I know I'll use.  Okey dokey enough on that.
Supplies:
New Testament cartridge by Cricut - cross page 35 (size about 3 inches)
cardstock - black, ivory
pattern paper - black & ivory stripe
Sentiments ~ My Pink Stamper
*  Good Luck = Fancy Phrases
*  Thank You for your Service = Fabulous Phrases
Edger Punch on sides is "Scroll & Dots" by EK Success
To add a variation of ivory color to the corners of the layer -- I just bent the 4 corners and added a black brad to hold it down-- this is a great way to add color without adding another layer.
I also tied black twine around the front layer before I adhered it to the card.
I added pop dots to the cross and Good Luck sentiment for dimension.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
♥Tracy
{Little Firecracker} Tubes - Recycle Project!
I had lots of fun making my Fireworks Snack last week that I couldn't wait to think of more ways to use the left over Twizzlers candy.  Thank you for all of your sweet comments.
If you've been following me for a while you know that I love to recycle, repurpose, reuse stuff that would normally be thrown in the trash.  So, let me introduce you to my Little Firecracker Tubes made with paper towel tubes and scrapbook paper.  When closed on one end these tubes make the perfect pocket to fill with a yummy treat.  I think these snacks will be a big hit at my 4th of July table….
Supplies:
  • empty paper towel tubes cut in half
  • 4th of July themed scrapbook paper
  • ivory & red card stock
  • Stars cuttlebug folder
  • Wavy Circle EK success punch
  • 3" scallop circle punch
  • Yankee Doodles by My Pink Stamper - (click here for kit)
  • inks - red, blue, brown, white
  • markers for coloring
  • crystal stickles to embellish stamped images
  • Scor Tape
  • Twizzlers candy
  • paper crimper
- I started with a 12 x 12 sheet of 4th of July scrapbook paper.  I made all 4 Little Firecracker tubes out of one sheet of 12 x 12.  I attached the paper to the tubes with adhesive.
- Punch 3" circle out of ivory paper using 3" scallop circle punch.  Ink edges with brown ink and dot scallops with navy blue marker.
- Punch wavy circle out of red paper using Wavy Circle punch.
- Emboss red circles using Stars embossing folder. Shade/ink with white ink.
Images - "Little Firecracker" and firecracker image found on Yankee Doodles by My Pink Stamper.  Color with markers (I used Copic markers).  Embellish with crystal stickles.
- Close one end of the tube with Scor Tape, tiny staples or other strong adhesive.  I used my paper crimper to add a bit of charactar to the end that's shut.
Refer to picture for placement of images and attach to circles and then to tube.
- Fill with twizzlers candy or other treat of your choice.
{Americana} Pinwheels
As I was strolling facebook I spotted this adorable pinwheel feature from Tip Junkie and I had to know more about them.  I {{love}} anything primitive country.
My cute friends over at Wayward Girls has an awesome step by step tutorial on how to make these pinwheels.  So please check that out if you want to know how to make these cuties.  Its super easy!
These pinwheels do not move -- they are just for decoration.
I started with an empty can and covered it with scrapbook paper in a burlap design.  I tied a strip of homespun fabric to the center of the can.
I added basket filler to "can" to cover up floral foam and rim of can.
For the pinwheels I used kraft pattern paper I found at Hobby Lobby.  All of these papers came together in a pack.  I glued them onto skewers.
I like the 4" pinwheels the best.  For these you see below I made 2 = 4" x 4" pinwheels and glued one on the front and one on the back of a skewer, off setting the colors a little. Alternating pattern paper and solid.
Learn how to make a pinwheel here
Here I am showing you the different sizes I tried.  The 6" pinwheel was a bit big for my arrangement.  I like the 4" pinwheels the best.
I also added sentiments to my pinwheel's arrangement -- it completes my project just perfect!
