Our Thanksgiving Table 2012

Hi everyone!  I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday.   Our family sure did.  We had lots of good food, football and family time.  For the last several years….I have been cooking on Thanksgiving for my family (hubby and my boys) and invite my in-laws over to join us .  My parents usually travel to Louisiana for some casino time -- so I am content with not having a big family get-together.  We love watching football on Thanksgiving Day and our team the Houston Texans did not disappoint us.  Yay!
I wanted to share a few pictures of my Thanksgiving table.  It's nothing fancy but it is definitely "me"…..I very seldom have everything matching and love a hodge podge full of different decor.

[Turkey Poop Mini Cups] with 8x10 Poem includes Free Printables

This post may look a little familiar but I assure you that it's a little different.  The other day I shared my version of Turkey Poop Poem with free printable [thank you for your sweet comments] and today I wanted to share a smaller variation with you.

I thought this would be a great idea to make up some of these little cups to have on the side table or dessert table for your Thanksgiving guests.  Instead of attaching a poem to each cup (like I did on the goodie bag) I created an 8" x 10" poem to print and insert into a frame.  Your guests can read the little poem when they grab a mini-cup.  =)

{Turkey Poop} Tags & Goodie Bags with Free Printable

If you're looking for a cute way to liven up your Thanksgiving table, hand out treats to friends, or just get a little laugh -- here is a cute idea.

Chocolate covered candies such as whoppers and milk duds work great for this treat but any chocolate candy will work.

The little tag says:

You invited me to dinner
with your family and your friends.
You didn't say I was the main dish
For me it was "THE END"

You frightened me so badly
I knew I had been duped!
So I left you with my calling card
this bag of Turkey Poop!

Cute and fun, huh?!

{Give Thanks Charger} Home Decor

Hi everyone!  I shared this Home Decor item over at A Rosie Sweet Home a few weeks ago and wanted to share it here on my blog also.

-------------
I love fall.  It's my favorite holiday/season to decorate for.  I love the combination of colors and scents of the season.
I've created a home decor piece that I can use all the way through Thanksgiving and I really like the idea of having it displayed in our dining room for all to see.
I picked up several of these orange chargers from Michael's several weeks ago when they were $1.00 each.  (they are regularly $1.99).  I cut out all of the vinyl cuts using my Cricut die cut machine.  I then added some bling and ribbon to finish off this festive creation.

Gratitude Turkey

This craft was inspired by Little Family Fun
As I promised in the Burlap Foam Board post yesterday -- here is our craft we created to put on this fun board.
::Gratitude Turkey::
What a great way to get the kids involved in crafting as well as being reminded of how thankful we should be for all of our things!
It's also a great tradition to start for all families during this season.

Spencer and I worked on this project together…he gave me his "opinions" of what he wanted his turkey to look like and insisted that I cut it out on my cricut.  You could also draw it free hand or find a template online.  I used card stock for our turkey but brown construction paper would work too.
Supplies I used to create our turkey:
  • brown card stock for turkey body
  • turkey pattern (I used the "black-out" feature on Animal Kingdom by Cricut cutting out turkey body, beak and red thing-ee under turkey's beak)
  • red, blue, orange, green, purple card stock for feathers
  • feather pattern -- I just drew free hand.
  • I hand cut two feet out of card stock
  • face for turkey - Peachy Keen Stamps
  • Sixxix Originals Die - Frame
  • various markers for doodling
I laminated the turkey for extra durability and so our family can use it for years to come.  =)

To attach our turkey and "thankful" feathers to the burlap board we used thumb tacks.  We tried glue dots and poster puddy but those didn't stick to the burlap.

Using those Scrap Cuts!

We all have them; lots of them….don't we?? Well at least I do.  Lots of "extra cuts" from paper that I cut on my cricut machine of projects that were never completed, images cut too big or too small, or I "changed my mind" cuts.
So I have a big ole drawer that I throw all of those cuts into to use "later"….maybe….  or to keep things straight…. if it's a project with a specific theme I will use plastic ziploc bags to keep matching pieces together for a later date.  I then put the bags in the drawer, write on them with a black marker what they are, cartridge, size, etc.

Now….onto today's project….last week, one of Spencer's school projects included a homework assignment to "Disguise Tom Turkey so he doesn't get picked for Thanksgiving Dinner" --  some examples included a dog, cat, sheep, barbie, super hero…. let your imagination sore……so the first thing I did was go to my "extra scrap cuts" drawer and let Spencer pick out a few "extra" cuts to "disquise" his paper turkey.  Now….let's get started…..it should be no surprise though -- he picked all cowboy cuts…. and these were left over from some of his birthday party invitations from several years ago.  Plain paper turkey was going to become "Cowboy Tom" by adding boots, pants, chaps, shirt, bandana, hat and some jute rope -- hoping not to get picked for Thanksgiving dinner.  YEE HAW!
He colored all of the feathers and mom added a few doodles to complete his project.

So fun!

Just an idea that those extra cuts can come in handy when we least expect it.
