{Valentine Gift Box} Tutorial using Recycled Cricut Cartridge Box

When I decided to take my Cricut cartridges out of the boxes and store them in a plastic containers {like these}  I kept the boxes for future projects, just like this one.  This project is made with one of the older cartridges boxes which are of heavy cardboard with a magnetic closure.  The newer Cricut cartridge boxes are plastic and snap to close.
Use what you have. :)

Recycled Can Organizers

Sometimes during cooking or baking I come across containers that are "just too good to throw away" and so I clean them out and hoard "store" them until I find a use for them.  Just like these large chicken cans.
So recently when I was looking for a certain clip for my hair I got so frustrated because I had all of my hair accessories in one basket and they were tangled and mixed up…..I thought to myself that I really needed to organize them a little better.  I was short on time with very little patience to make them "purty" so I quickly added some white duct tape and washi tape to each can.  Seriously this project took me less than 5 minutes.  I think it took me longer to separate all of my clips than it did to make these.

….and 5 minutes later…..waaa laaa…

The inside of the can is clean so I am happy with the the way they are but you can definitely paint them or cover the inside if you'd like.

{Little Firecracker} Tubes - Recycle Project!

I had lots of fun making my Fireworks Snack last week that I couldn't wait to think of more ways to use the left over Twizzlers candy.  Thank you for all of your sweet comments.

If you've been following me for a while you know that I love to recycle, repurpose, reuse stuff that would normally be thrown in the trash.  So, let me introduce you to my Little Firecracker Tubes made with paper towel tubes and scrapbook paper.  When closed on one end these tubes make the perfect pocket to fill with a yummy treat.  I think these snacks will be a big hit at my 4th of July table….

Supplies:
  • empty paper towel tubes cut in half
  • 4th of July themed scrapbook paper
  • ivory & red card stock
  • Stars cuttlebug folder
  • Wavy Circle EK success punch
  • 3" scallop circle punch
  • Yankee Doodles by My Pink Stamper - (click here for kit)
  • inks - red, blue, brown, white
  • markers for coloring
  • crystal stickles to embellish stamped images
  • Scor Tape
  • Twizzlers candy
  • paper crimper
- I started with a 12 x 12 sheet of 4th of July scrapbook paper.  I made all 4 Little Firecracker tubes out of one sheet of 12 x 12.  I attached the paper to the tubes with adhesive.
- Punch 3" circle out of ivory paper using 3" scallop circle punch.  Ink edges with brown ink and dot scallops with navy blue marker.
- Punch wavy circle out of red paper using Wavy Circle punch.
- Emboss red circles using Stars embossing folder. Shade/ink with white ink.
Images - "Little Firecracker" and firecracker image found on Yankee Doodles by My Pink Stamper.  Color with markers (I used Copic markers).  Embellish with crystal stickles.
- Close one end of the tube with Scor Tape, tiny staples or other strong adhesive.  I used my paper crimper to add a bit of charactar to the end that's shut.
Refer to picture for placement of images and attach to circles and then to tube.
- Fill with twizzlers candy or other treat of your choice.

Thanks for reading! :)

Decorated {Cookie} Box for Man Gift - Recycle and Re-Use

Recently, while we were on vacation my father-in-law stopped by every morning and night to ensure our critters were fed and taken good care of.  {We have 2 dogs and 2 fair show pigs so that’s why you’ll see these animals on the box below.}  As a little token of appreciation we baked him up some yummy cookies.  Once the cookies were baked.....I had to decide how to give them to him.  Such fun decisions! ☺

I thought about many different ways we could dress them up .... like put them in a bag, on a plate or platter and then I came up with this idea of decorating a box and put the baked cookies inside.  The cookies are a variety of Ready to Bake frozen cookie dough that I purchased from my son as a fundraiser through school.  The athletic department was selling cookie dough to raise money for their athletic program.

Simple and easy -- definitely my way of baking cookies, just take them out of the freezer and put them on a cookie sheet and bake for 15 mins.  :)
This project is more about how I decorated the box top (that I put the baked cookies in).  The box is actually one from the frozen cookie dough.  These cardboard boxes are sturdy and such a shame to waste.  They already have the brown striped design on the sides so I played along with what was already there and just had to cover the top and front side with scrapbook paper.

Yummy goodies inside!

Supplies to make top of box:
Since the edges of the box had these adorable brown stripes I just measured the scrapbook paper for the top and front side.  I used the brown ink to ink around edges of box {this helps hide any missed spots or to distress the entire box blending all of the colors together.}

Here is a closer look….

Have a great day everyone!

Spice Cabinet Reorganization with Recycled Cricut cartridge boxes

Over the years I've collected many bottles of spices, food preparation assistants and other odds and ends that cluttered my spice cabinet.  One of my favorite ideas I see on pinterest is the home organization pictures, tutorials and ideas that so many creative people share.  When I decided it was time (way past time in fact) to de-clutter and go through my spice cabinet I wanted a process that was a little less complicated and would suit my need to have everything at my fingertips when preparing a meal.

Let us begin….

I pulled everything out of the cabinet before I thought to do a before and after photo for you…..BUT I'm sure you can imagine all of this "stuff".

Bedtime Pass & Video #171

I was totally inspired to create one of these for Spencer when I saw this one here and then the ones here.

There are times we have issues with Spencer getting out of bed for a "drink of water" or "he forgot to tell  us something" or just the satisfaction of getting up after bedtime. We're hoping this may help deter his trips out of the bed after lights out.

I even made a video for today's project -- sorry, I've been MIA in making video's but life is very busy and it takes a bit of time to film, edit and upload a video so I'm happy I had the time today.  :)

4th of July Home Decor - Video #169

I have been totally inspired to make some home decor firecrackers because I've been seeing them all over the web. They are created using all sorts of materials and it's very interesting to see how creative we all are.  Kudos everyone!!

Now....when I first started my project I had in my mind what I wanted them to "look like" and now that I am finished ---- hmm...they turned out a little (well......a lot) different from what I first thought -- BUT I'm okay with it and I think they are kinda puuurrrty :)

What do you think?  I'd love to hear your comments!  No time to leave a comment - click the "like" button below and I'll know you liked my project.
